Tarot memory share [Phoenix]

The room you enter this time is an ostentatious fortune tellers tent. Colourful silks drape the walls with intricate golden constellations embroidered on the ceiling. Various crystals, candles, magic 8 balls, and other superstitious sundries are scattered throughout the tent.

In the centre of the room is a table with ten chairs around it, and three cards laid out for you:

HIEROPHANT, STRENGTH, SUN

[ RULES | TURN-IN ]

[ had been politely covering her eyes during the dressing montage but watching as Sholmes takes leave in the cab ]

Oh, you looked very natural in those heels! Sometimes they take getting used to. I'm impressed Mr. S-, erm, in this case is it Miss Sholmes?

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-18 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
In this case, that is Ms Irene Adler! The beautiful, the clever, the mysterious!

...And thank you. The heels took a bit of practice, but I eventually became proficient enough to even run in them! Though my back would always ache terribly the next day.
briarliar: (Lady's Mantle)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-18 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, it takes a lot of balancing work for running! And maybe a different kind of heel. The ones added on to the shoe are more likely to break, I've found.

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-18 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you broken a lot of heels in your time, Mrs Forger? That sounds like a very easy way to twist an ankle. Women's clothing is a trial unto itself, isn't it?
briarliar: (Dandelion)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-18 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not always easy, I admit. I like my clothes but sometimes I wish I could have more pockets like the men's suits...

[ it would be much easier to carry weapons that way ]
retroductions: (pic#15630377)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-18 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. What you need is a thick winter coat. Then you may line the inside with as many pockets as you like, and still look fashionable.
briarliar: (Oak)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-18 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I have one just like that, and it's very lovely! B-but it might be conspicuous in the summer...

[ honestly Yor is fine with the cold, but she wears that coat specifically for pockets and Loid got it for her ]

I'm still very impressed you managed with heels and a corset. The two of those together are very unwieldy.
retroductions: (pic#15643514)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-19 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, that is true. It is unfair, is it not? A lady has as much need for pockets as anyone else.

The heels and corset are not so bad once they are on. It is in removing them when I start to feel as though I had been unfairly restricted. But the lengths one will go to for disguise and fashion is great, indeed.

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-19 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I can definitely see that! Mr. Ruggie suggested I should try a fake mustache if I ever wanted to look different, but I don't think I could be anywhere close to as convincing as you. Have you done any other disguises you're really proud of?
retroductions: (pic#15733028)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-19 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. I have disguised myself as a policeman, an old lady, a beggar, and a very large potted plant. And many more, of course; too many to note in one breath.

...I think a fake mustache might suit you well, but it would be only one fraction of a full disguise. No, you'd have to commit to the whole costume if you wanted to fool anyone.
briarliar: (Hibiscus)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-19 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
...a potted plant?

Oh, but I don't have anyone I want to fool! I was thinking of playing pretend, I certainly don't want Anya to not realize it was me, s-she might think she would be kidnapped again..
retroductions: (pic#15733033)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-20 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[A...h, which part of that should he respond to?]

Anya's been kidnapped before?
briarliar: (American Bittersweet)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-20 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
W-well, the first time it wasn't really a kidnapping, j-just an attempt. Some ruffians grabbed her as we were coming out of the market. Apparently Eden College uniforms make them an alluring target? But I was right there and they let her go as soon as told them to!

[ after crushing groceries in her hand and letting the innards of her squashed enemies (because it was literally a squash) run down her hands ]

[Even without knowing about Yor’s very terrifying… potential, he can only imagine.]

A mother’s love for her child is a very intimidating thing. And given what I know of your strength...

Either way, I am glad no harm came to poor Anya. She must have been frightened.
briarliar: (Hawthorn)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-21 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She was, that's why I started giving her self-defense lessons. I wanted to make sure she feels as safe as possible, even if I'm not around...
retroductions: (pic#15643421)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-22 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
That is reasonable, of course. Can she throw a man much like you pitched me away, not that long ago? Send them flying?
briarliar: (Creeping Ivy)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-22 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
N-not yet, and I hope none of her classmates have asked her to demonstrate either...no offense, Mr. Sholmes.

I think I'm saving the, um, tossing people for when she's a little older, maybe Iris's age! I'm sure she'll be ready and taller by then!
retroductions: (pic#15711141)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-22 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps that would be more reasonable. It is a shame that I cannot see it for myself, someday!

I once shared my flat with a young woman of only sixteen, and she had developed a most vicious throw. The “Susato Takedown”, she called it.
briarliar: (Amaryillis)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-23 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ she smiles because she loves hearing Sholmes talk excitedly about Iris and other protegee-like friends...even if she doesn't want to ask if she tried it out on him (she is very sure that happened) ]

Oh my, that sounds really impressive. I wish I could meet Miss Susato and ask her about her technique! Is she also from the place where your other friends live?
retroductions: (pic#15702894)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-24 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[It is an honor to be overwhelmed by the Susato Takedown! Mr Naruhodo may not agree with him there, but what does he know?]

Yes! She visited London from Japan, along with Mr Naruhodo. I should not wish this place on either of them, of course, but I do agree... it is a shame you cannot meet them. I think you would get along with either of them splendidly.

[It's not unusual for Sholmes to sound excitable about any given subject, and this is no exception, but there's an obvious hint of fondness in his tone, too.]
briarliar: (Tumbleweed)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-24 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so, if they're your friends they must be absolutely fascinating. Is Mr. Naruhodo also a self-defense expert? Or a detective like you?

Oh, I really wish this Warden would use her special powers for nicer things. Just imagine what she could do with a vacation planning bureau!
retroductions: (pic#15740604)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-26 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Mr Naruhodo is a defense lawyer, and a very talented one. The court cases he'd taken up in the Old Bailey, despite his short tenure in Britain, were marvelous to witness. It was heartening to see him take my own methods into account -- reasoning, deduction, eliminating the impossible to see what remains of the truth.

[He sounds proud.]

Perhaps the Warden will conjure up a game based on vacation-planning for us in the future?
briarliar: (Daffodil)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-26 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, it sounds like a defense lawyer would count as a self-defense expert and a detective! Maybe if we are ever given a chance at explaining our crimes he could help...

I just hope I can be more useful for the next task than I was for this one... I'm going to have to memorize entirely different countries just to know what vacation destinations people are talking about at this rate...
retroductions: (pic#15733028)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-27 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
We’re a well-rounded sort, aren’t we? No doubt there will be something that suits you better than the rest of us. Perhaps… a bodily throwing competition?
briarliar: (Buddha's Hand)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-27 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I-I think Mr. Inui would still be our strongest contender there.

[ Sholmes could judge, having been manhandled by both teammates ]
