Tarot memory share [Phoenix]

The room you enter this time is an ostentatious fortune tellers tent. Colourful silks drape the walls with intricate golden constellations embroidered on the ceiling. Various crystals, candles, magic 8 balls, and other superstitious sundries are scattered throughout the tent.

In the centre of the room is a table with ten chairs around it, and three cards laid out for you:

HIEROPHANT, STRENGTH, SUN

Mr Naruhodo is a defense lawyer, and a very talented one. The court cases he'd taken up in the Old Bailey, despite his short tenure in Britain, were marvelous to witness. It was heartening to see him take my own methods into account -- reasoning, deduction, eliminating the impossible to see what remains of the truth.

[He sounds proud.]

Perhaps the Warden will conjure up a game based on vacation-planning for us in the future?

Ah, it sounds like a defense lawyer would count as a self-defense expert and a detective! Maybe if we are ever given a chance at explaining our crimes he could help...

I just hope I can be more useful for the next task than I was for this one... I'm going to have to memorize entirely different countries just to know what vacation destinations people are talking about at this rate...

We’re a well-rounded sort, aren’t we? No doubt there will be something that suits you better than the rest of us. Perhaps… a bodily throwing competition?

I-I think Mr. Inui would still be our strongest contender there.

[ Sholmes could judge, having been manhandled by both teammates ]

Do not think of it in those terms, Mrs Forger. Instead, think of what the two of you could accomplish with a team-up! Why, I imagine you could toss every single inmate at least thirty yards with your combined strength!
briarliar: (Acacia)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-27 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the cheering up Mr. Sholmes...b-but I wouldn’t want to have to throw everyone around for a task. I don't think most people have your, um, appreciation for the surprise...

[…]

Come now, hopefully we would not be reckless about it. A pile of mattresses would be prepared at the end of those thirty or so yards. I would hate for anyone to break a tailbone.
briarliar: (California Poppy)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-27 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I-I think if we did it as a task for the Warden she might not be considerate enough to let us bring mattresses out before the, um, flinging was supposed to happen.

[ ...also while she tries to ask politely for people not to attack others sometimes you just gotta chuck a dude thirty feet away to get your bearings ]

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-28 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You assume that the intention is to harm, not to simply throw. I am thinking along the lines of a competition, a game! There is no need for broken bones in that instance -- not purposefully broken ones, anyway.
briarliar: (Wisteria)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-28 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...I-I still think there aren't many people besides you who would, um, be excited about that kind of competition.

Are...are you actually interested in getting thrown thirty feet Mr. Sholmes?
retroductions: (pic#15733035)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-29 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course! I find it fascinating! There are so many people here with such extraordinary abilities that it would be a shame not to put them to the test in some form or fashion while I'm here. If nothing else, for the sake of observation; and if that requires me to go flying a good thirty feet in the name of science, then so be it.
briarliar: (Clementine)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-29 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
...I...guess that makes sense i-if you wanted to practice rolling with such a throw. M-maybe Mr. Inui and I could set up the mattresses beforehand...

[ and now there's a good ICly explanation for why Yor let Juzo shove Sholmes into a trash can, because he must have been asking for it ]

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-29 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Clearly it was all planned.]

That would be beneficial to those wanting to practice throwing and to be thrown. What a shame there isn't a more official space for these endeavors, hm?
briarliar: (Hellotrope)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-29 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Y-you could ask Mr. Momota for help? He's very creative when it comes to making obstacle courses for training scenarios. B-but I really must insist you agree to ceiling it up after you're done or else Echidna will be upset...
retroductions: (pic#15683551)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-29 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, did you witness this man create his own obstacle course? How diligent.

Even so, I do mean something in a more official capacity. Though I suppose the Warden has more purview over that — or the suggestion box.
briarliar: (Grapevine)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-30 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, he and Miss Tsuruno were very enthusiastic about it! And at least Miss Tsuruno didn't have to be persuaded to help clean up...

I'm sorry, but...official? D-do you mean like with a referee? And whistle?
retroductions: (pic#15630378)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-30 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hm, note to self: find these two later! For now...]

A whistle would be good fun! [SHOLMES + A WHISTLE IS A TERRIBLE IDEA, WHY WOULD YOU SUGGEST THIS, YOR] But no, I mean something closer to... ah, a boxing ring? A sparring area? Have you ever been witness to a bout of underground fighting, Mrs Forger?
briarliar: (Begonia)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-06-30 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
U-underground fighting?!

[ she has been privy to tons of illegal fighting arenas but... ]

Do you mean where they fight in the subway?
retroductions: (pic#15733033)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-06-30 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wait, what?]

Have you encountered underground fighting in the subway before?

[They're both going to end up confused at this point.]
briarliar: (Aster)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-07-02 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ she is constantly confused, join the party ]

W-where else could you fight that's underground? A basement? Isn't that just house fighting?
retroductions: (pic#15650439)

[personal profile] retroductions 2022-07-02 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, he sees the issue here.]

Anywhere you can get away with it. Abandoned factories, the basement of an inn, even in the gardens of the more well-to-do -- I've encountered them in various locations that are not underground as the name implies. I suppose the better term is "illegal!"
briarliar: (Magnolia)

[personal profile] briarliar 2022-07-02 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I-I wouldn't want to do anything illegal! I'm not even sure how you can tell illegal fighting from regular frowned upon fighting!

[ like is it really a fight if you K.O. the opponent in one kick? and maybe her time in Shopkeeper's garden isn't entirely legit but that's just training... ]
